Use Case
First mile traceability starts with knowing the source; the fields where products are grown, and the farmers who manage those fields.
Details are lost when handling numerous members, farmers, fields, and/or crops. In addition to this, each farmer may own several fields. Without a digital platform that streamlines farmer management and embeds a mapping tool, companies are struggling to obtain first mile efficiency.
Scattered, non-exhaustive, and disorganised data from various sources.
Excel and paper-based processes for data collection and record keeping leave room for improvement towards actionable insights and accurate data and record-keeping.
Remapping activities are needed to correct the data when mapping errors are identified in the field or via quality checks. This is time-intensive and costly.
Multiple tools along various geographies create scaling difficulty. Without a “one click” solution, scaling first mile data remains nearly impossible.
Organise large amounts of information and data into digestible insights.
Achieve more cost-efficient agricultural operations by implementing farmer network management.
Overcome complexities in field mapping, including aligned definitions along the supply chain.
Field staff register each farmer, together with their photo and GPS-mapped polygons of their individual fields (and more).
In Farmforce, every farmer is assigned a unique ID for traceability purposes. Their profiles contain essential bio-data, such as full names, dates of birth, gender, mobile numbers, photographs, and other pertinent details.
A farmer is linked to one or multiple fields, each also identified by a unique Field ID. Our system accommodates the importation of field information and locations, whether through utilizing our web platform to import existing shape files, or by utilizing our mobile app, empowering your field staff to map field locations.
Farmers and fields are at the core of Farmforce’s functionality. Each action within the system is linked back to a farmer and their fields, to help you achieve track your first-mile activities and reach your traceability objectives.
Leveraging our database, users are able to store all farmers’ information in one place. Also, they can import multiple growers from other systems in one go and enter their certification ID to differentiate them. Aside from saving time and effort, you’ll spot the eerie presence of any ghost farmer you’re paying, thus cutting your expenses.
Farmer Dashboard: This is a grower’s full picture, including a map and growing activities for each field, cropping cycles, training & payments received, etc.
Farmer Activity: Some farmers might not work for a certain coop every season. By flagging these as inactive, you can exclude them from a specific season without losing their records for good.
Tags: Simple yet handy. For instance, thanks to this functionality, it’ll take you no time to find farmers enrolled in a certain program (e.g., Rainforest Alliance).
Groups: Not to be confused with tags, this feature is even more powerful. Once farmers are added to a group, they’re linked with a series of related information (e.g., staff members they’re visible to, planting campaigns, surveys, etc.).
Named Attributes: This function lets users bulk upload extra details which might be specifically required by your customers (e.g., farmer total yield in a certain year, plot age, etc.).
In a few clicks, users can create a GPS-mapped polygon for the field(s) owned by each of their farmers. Once the growing areas are captured, our advanced traceability solution stores their coordinates and ties them with the respective growers.
Field & Infrastructure Mapping: Aside from growing plots, our mapping functionality allows you to keep track of any non-agricultural places (e.g., forests, schools, etc.) near the farms you manage. See further details on mapping functionality in our Deforestation Monitoring Use Case, here.
GPS Field Mapping: Allows for functional geolocation by automatically generating GPS-mapped polygons for fields. These polygons can be linked to specific growers and stored in a database. This allows users to track the location of their fields, growers, and non-agricultural areas near their farms.
With large farming operations come many farmers. In order to bring each field, farmer, or product to scale, accurate first mile data is needed as without such insights there is no traceability.
With digitalised and streamlined processes along the journey of your product, starting at the farm-level, with accurate figures in your database will increase your ability for risk mitigation and to improve profit margins.
All along the supply chain and to the end consumer, insight and visibility into farmers’ and fields’ operations and traceability that is tied to GPS Mapping is becoming more and more sought after.
DigitAlising the Cocoa Process
GCB Cocoa has already used our food tech in Cote d’Ivoire, where they directly implement sustainability programs. As it stands, GCB Cocoa deployed our sustainable food supply chain management Software as a Service (SaaS) across 11 cooperatives, covering nearly 6,000 smallholder farmers altogether.
